The pursuant:First Draft
This is our first draft, we are yet to receive audience feedback on this and therefore cannot make any audience based feedback until further notice- however we have set ourselves 3 targets for our second draft:
Targets:
To add titles that both match and represent our genre
To add more shot variation
Edit the overall piece to a higher standard, perhaps adding alternative colours and perspectives.
Initial Treatment & StoryBoard
Initial Treatment
The scene opens with newspaper clippings
of unsolved crimes as well as slow and industrial sounding soundtrack in the background.
The room is dimly lit by candle light and the protagonist is obscured. Over the
shoulder shots will be used to obscure the protagonist as he traces through
various clippings and images of past and potential victims. The scene will be
broken up with insert scenes of flashbacks, which display the stalkers
murderous capabilities through various match on actions and potential jump cuts.
Whilst showing contrasting lighting, we will portray the stalkers upcoming
plans. As the music begins to decrease in sound we see an almost close up of
the protagonist as he blows out the candle, which simultaneously stops all
other sound.
This is our initial storyboard, we decided to make more than one so, we can see our development over the course of the process also it allows us to build on our previous ideas.Scream: Improvement & (Production log)
So I have just finished completing my improvements and we are continuing to prepare props for our opening- after having made the cut outs and tainting the prop we decided to pin this onto an old and rugged piece of cardboard- this was one of a few props for our opening, a BIG one as well, the newspaper articles we hope s will show the experience and intelligence of our main antagonist and that this will inject fear into the audience- here is a mini vlog of the measures needed to create this prop as well as a picture of us having fun making them.
Mood Board
1.The stereotypical
outlook on hooded people is that the connote danger, and therefore will make
the audience feel nervous, but also mystery as it makes the viewer question
what they have to hide, also the audience will be made to feel intrigued into
the endless possibilities of the characters appearance.
2. Once again, the
typical connotations of darkness is danger, therefore inflicting a sense of
nervousness, and this is reinforced by the
small majority of people in our survey that said darkness was one of
their biggest phobias, thus making the audience feel scared and fearful of the
potential problems / dangers associated with darkness. But also the lack of
light (a typical symbol of hope) represents further the power that the
antagonist has, another feature used to scare the audience as well as make them
feel intimidated
3. The inclusion of
blood is important as it reflects the death – and is also ensures the audience
feel helpless as it usually means that someone/something has been killed, and
as a viewer they often become attached to certain characters and the death of a
beloved character could spark emotions of sadness and disappointment amongst
the audience.
4.Also the religious
aspects of a film- often being
possessed/controlled in Horror films , can lead members of the audience to feel
alarmed as we know that the actions of these characters are spontaneous /
unpredictable. Therefore making the audience feel apprehensive of these
characters as well as their interaction in the film.
5. I can ensure the
audience feel uneasy, by including a motif of danger, in Horror films it is
often the weapon of murder. A typical example is a knife, and when present on
screen it makes the audience feel weary of when it will be next used. This
apprehensive emotion would be effective if created as once introduced this
motif can repeatedly create unease amongst the audience.
6. Dirty fingers not
only portray the lack of cleanliness to the audience, therefore making the
audience feel disgusted and vexed by the potential capabilities / damage that
large muscular hands could cause. By stimulating this emotion in the audience
we can display the potential dangers of the antagonist whilst still creating
disgust.
7. The scab is another
image that discourages the audiences and also makes them feel repulsion, but
more importantly it represents the gradual mistreatment of skin, and could
therefore hint that because the antagonist
doesn't care about their own body that perhaps they wont care about
anyone else's.
8.Masks are another
means of appearance that also display /
enhance a characters fear factor, and the horrific facade of a character can
often sicken the audience – a bloodthirsty clown is a good example of this, one
which also plays on certain peoples fears as well. In contrast the simple
nature of the exterior often qualms the audience, due to its simplicity and
abnormality, such as scream for example.
9.Also by representing
an authorial struggle in the film (amongst police and other members of
authority), the audience are injected with a sense of tension as these figures
normally stand to protect, but instead they emphasize the power of the
antagonist .
